At Schatzenstein you will find Nagel's Column, Station 127 of the Saxon State Survey of 1864, and the memorial plaque for Max Schreyer, the composer of the "Vuglbärbaam" song. A large rest area with a shelter offers space for a relaxing break.

"The Royal Saxon Triangulation (here with its historical proper name) is a national survey carried out between 1862 and 1890 on the territory of the Kingdom of Saxony, with the simultaneous creation of a trigonometric network. The goal was to record the territory with scientific and geodetic precision and, by establishing permanently marked reference points, to create the basis for the production of accurate maps." - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6niglich-S%C3%A4chsische_Triangulirung The triangulation network created by August Nagel was considered one of the most accurate surveying networks in the world at the time. The Nagel Columns are preserved today as technical monuments. From the Schatzenstein, the stations Greifenstein, Scheibenberg, Fichtelberg, Hirschensprung, Auersberg, Hirschenstein, and Katzenstein were sighted. Unfortunately, this panoramic view is no longer available.

The survey is primarily of historical significance. This is where the roots of Annaberg silver ore mining lie. In October 1491, Caspar Nietzel came across a silver vein not far from the Frohnauer Obermühle. As a result, in 1496 the “Neustadt am Schockenberg” was built on the opposite bank of the Sehm, which was soon given the name Sankt Annaberg.

Near (below) Wolkenstein Castle, in an approximately 80 m high rock formation, lies the Wolfsschlucht. This makes the impressive descent possible with a view of the Zschopautal. The origin of the name Wolfschlucht does not come - as suspected - from wolves in the Ore Mountains, but is said to come from the sounds of the wind when it blows over the rock and through the gorge and "howls". The Wolfsschlucht and its rocks also attract experienced climbers. The rest area below the rock formation is located directly on the Zschopau, information boards give a detailed overview of the climbing rocks and their level of difficulty.
