Today's Bad Oldesloe - Henstedt-Ulzburg cycle path runs along the former narrow-gauge railway line of the Elmshorn-Barmstedt-Oldesloer-Eisenbahn AG (EBOE). In 1973, train service on the section to Barmstedt was discontinued for economic reasons and amid protests from the local population. Passenger service was replaced by buses. In the following years, the tracks were dismantled and a cycle path was created.
