The further you get from Bad Segeberg, the quieter and more secluded the path becomes – at least in winter. After rain or during thaws, it can sometimes be very muddy.

The large Segeberger See (Lake Segeberg) lies southeast of the town of Bad Segeberg. It covers approximately 178 hectares and has a maximum depth of 12 meters. There is an island in the lake that remains underwater almost year-round. The lake also has a unique history. It originated from a salt dome containing gypsum rock that rose up to near the surface and was eroded by released groundwater after the glacial permafrost thawed. The overlying rock layers subsided, creating depressions that filled with water. Over time, the resulting lake basins split into today's Segeberger See and Klüthsee. There are three boat rentals along the shore: near the town, in Klein Rönnau, and in Stipsdorf. There is also an outdoor swimming pool in the town and in Klein Rönnau. This lake also offers great opportunities for anglers.
