I would recommend just reading the information board and not climbing up to the rock with the small caves. You can catch a glimpse of the barred cave entrances, but that's all.

Schönecken Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 467 m above sea level above the municipality of the same name, Schönecken, in the Nimstal in the western Eifel (Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm) in Rhineland-Palatinate. The castle stood on the lowest ridge in the middle of a valley. The complex is protected by higher mountains on all sides. The Schönecken castle ruins are also called "Bella Costa" or "Clara Costa". The Hohl-Ley Caves, the gateway to the underworld, as the informative sign on site calls these bat caves and informs about the biodiversity that is found there. The climb is steep, and the cave entrances have a grille to protect the animals. Still, it's worth taking a look inside.

We were just amazed at the wild garlic blossom, now it really knocks us off the pedestal: The entire forest is a single blooming wild garlic field. Not only does it look good; We are still raving about the olfactory treat days later. We also discover slightly larger, red-violet flowering wild garlic, which a specialist later confirmed to be quite rare.
