The Niebüll water tower is a historic structure built in 1908 to supply water to the steam locomotives of the Marschbahn. It is the only remaining structure of its kind along this route and was expanded in 1926 with a larger reinforced concrete head. After operations ceased in 1972, the tower began to decay and was even on the verge of demolition. The topping-out ceremony after the tower roof was erected was in September 2013. Four additional windows, a toilet facility and the relocation of the entrance were installed to make the tower accessible as an observation tower. The tower was renovated to make it more energy efficient and then heated to prevent it from deteriorating.
