The Amrum Mill is the oldest windmill in Schleswig-Holstein. It was built in 1770-1771 on the highest elevation in the town and operated by the first miller, Erk Knudten. In 1963 the last miller, Hans Kristensen, had to stop operations for economic reasons. From 1964 onwards the Association for the Preservation of the Amrum Windmill e.V. took over the windmill and converted the former storage rooms into a museum, which opened on June 28, 1964. The Vogelkoje was no longer accessible to us from the street. You can reach the beautiful little lake from the hiking trail. The path is a bit adventurous and only suitable for hikers who are good on foot.
