The origins of the Liebenberger Park lie in the 16th century. In addition to at least two buildings, the knight's seat mentioned in 1580 also included a kitchen and ornamental garden typical of the time. After the Thirty Years' War, the zu Hertefeld family bought the property in 1652. They initially devoted themselves to draining the swampy marshy land south-east of Liebenberg in order to make it arable for agriculture and dairy cattle breeding. This marked the beginning of a heyday for Gut Liebenberg. The park was used for supply, recreation and edification, but also to represent the wealth of the Hertefeld family, which was well known in Prussia. Even then, the park stretched beyond the narrower castle and estate area into the adjacent forest up to the Lindsee. It was structured by trimmed rows of trees, straight paths and a central longitudinal axis, which divided off lawns with espaliered fruit surrounded by borders. This inner park was therefore used both for decoration and for growing fruit. The outer park, which adjoins towards the hill in the north-east, was only designed in a restrained manner. It was reserved for the manorial hunt. At the beginning of the 19th century, tastes in garden design changed. In 1829, Karl zu Hertefeld commissioned the up-and-coming garden architect Peter Josef Lenné to come up with a new concept. He drew up a plan for converting the Liebenberger Barockpark into a landscaped park, which was based on English models. The apparently more natural landscape design included the loosening up of closed rows of trees, the variety through differences in height and the breaking up of the strictly straight lines and boundaries. The baroque longitudinal axis from the tea house to the Kappen Hügel remained part of the new concept as a visual connection. Lenné's plan was not implemented completely and only gradually. A drawing of the castle and park from 1847 still shows a strictly linear wayside cross around a circular water basin on today's castle park meadow. This is the area around Sommerswalde Castle and not a Lost Place, even if it makes the impression at first glance. The castle itself is the Tharpaland Kadampa Meditation Center: A center for meditation and modern Buddhism.

A beautiful park is hidden behind the castle, but it is not always accessible.
