Hans Joachim von Zieten (1699-1786) was one of the most famous cavalry generals in Prussian history and a close confidant of King Frederick the Great. In the wars of Frederick II, von Zieten proved to be a capable commander of the hussar regiment. The so-called “Zietenritt”, with which the hussar general secured his king the reinforcement of the main army on May 20, 1745, is famous. The manor house of Hans Joachim von Zieten, which was later extended, is now the seat of the German Judicial Academy and is an important sight in town.

Since 2009, Ribbeck Castle, which was built in neo-baroque style as an extension of the "double-roof house" from Theodor Fontane's famous ballad, has been shining in its original splendor above the picturesque village ensemble of the former estate.
