The ruins of Hunnesrück Castle are situated on a steep slope atop the Amtsberg hills. Some remnants of the walls are still visible. The deep moats are particularly impressive.

The beautiful and interesting remains of Grubenhagen Castle hold special significance as the namesake of the former Welf duchy of Brunswick-Grubenhagen. Here you will find a pleasant resting place and a shelter for inclement weather.

Normally, the ruins are closed to the public. However, there is a way. At the castle hotel, you can get the key for the gate and visit the ruins. The observation tower was particularly important to me because I visit similar ones by bicycle in the TV series "The Tower Hunt." The tower looks massive. Spiral stone stairs lead up to a small room where you can also reach the viewing platform. First, though, you have to climb the vertical metal ladder. It's worth it because the view is beautiful. You can see the ruins and the surrounding area very well.

Stamp point no. 23 of the "Hiking Treasures in the Wild Homeland" trail is located directly on the Da5, an interesting destination that can be reached via excellent trails. If you continue along the Da5, you'll also find the Christ Cross nearby.

Through this beautiful gate, you reach the ruins of Greene Castle, a worthwhile hiking destination. After renovations in 2024, the castle will be accessible again, but please check the opening times beforehand.

Unfortunately, no castle or remains in sight, but you get the stamp.
