The 15th-century castle consists of an outer and a main castle on two islands. Thanks to the different architectural periods, elements of Classicism (Rentei), Neo-Gothic (chapel), and Renaissance (stepped gable) can be found here. Since its purchase in 1786, the castle has been privately owned by the Heereman von Zuydtwyck family from Roermond, and is still inhabited today by Philipp Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck. Conclusion: Even though the castle is privately owned, a visit and tour of the complex is worthwhile. Tours of the public parts of the castle are also available upon reservation.

Castle Chapel and Capuchin Monastery The northernmost Rococo chapel in Bavaria—this is how the Clemenswerth Castle Church is often called because of its richness of color and form. With its murals, stucco work, and large ceiling fresco, as well as its high altar, pulpit, and princely box, it is one of J.C. Schlaun's most significant interior creations. In 1741, the pious Electoral founder summoned the Capuchin Order to this location, from where they continue to provide pastoral care in the northern Emsland region. Behind the castle chapel stands the multi-story monastery building with the adjoining large monastery garden of the Capuchin friars.
