Chronicle of Grubenhagen Castle
12th century Grubenhagen Castle was probably built by the Counts of Dassel
First documented in 1263: the "nobles of Grube"
1388 Hans von Grube sells his paternal inheritance including Grubenberg to Duke Otto von Braunschweig zu Göttingen. (Whether Grubenhagen Castle was enclosed is not certain.)
1440 Henry III, Lord of Grubenhagen - He goes down in history as a quarrelsome Guelph.
1448 The Landgrave of Hesse besieges the castle. Despite the use of powder cannons and a superior number of soldiers, the castle is not conquered. Out of anger, the disappointed besiegers devastated and burned down the villages of Reinsen, Altendorf, Bensen and Rotenkirchen.
1520 Reconstruction of the sovereign court in Rotenkirchen, which was responsible for the supply of Grubenhagen Castle.
1521 Relocation of the official administration of the principality of Grubenhagen to Rotenkirchen.
1596 After the Hanoverian line of Guelphs had died out, the Grubenhagen castle complex was abandoned and no longer regularly inhabited. Gradually the complex fell into disrepair, only the round tower remained. (several changes of ownership)
1816 The Duke of Cambridge (Viceroy of Hanover) takes possession of the Rotenkirchen domain. Master builder Laves redesigned the official building into an elegant hunting lodge. A horse stable is built on the still existing castle tower on Grubenhagen.
from 1866 the castle tower also fell into disrepair. Destroyed stairs in the tower.
1977 The ornithologist Hans Wagner inspires a number of young men, some of whom start renovating the castle complex.
1982 Founding of the "Grubenhagen Castle Association" with the aim of preserving the historic cultural monument BURG GRUBENHAGEN for posterity through suitable construction measures.
