Dannsee Castle, the remains of a medieval castle complex. The castle in Dannsee was the castle of Heinrich von Borch, a robber baron from Horneburg, also known as "Isern Hinnerk." The castle was completely destroyed in the course of fighting before its completion.

The former Horneburg Castle has not been preserved since the 17th century, the complex with the moat, castle site (today the estate park), the water systems (drainage ditch, former mill pond and pumping station) and surrounding buildings that belong to the subsequent estate (manor house, outbuildings, Horse stable with horse trough), however, are still preserved. The development of Horneburg is closely linked to the castle built on the Aue in the 13th century (Horneburg = castle in the corner of the Aue). The builder was the Archbishop of Bremen, Gerhard II, and the land belonged to the Harsefeld Monastery. The Horneburg was built as a moated castle in the Sietland of the Lühe in a strategically convenient location: from there the access from the Altes Land along the Lühe to the Stader Geest was controlled. The castle itself existed until the Thirty Years' War and was closed down around 1660 under the rule of the Swede Hans Christoph von Königsmarck. Five manors were divided from the castle fiefdom and the land belonging to the castle; the former castle complex was preserved as Gut I in the former outer bailey; residential and farm buildings were built here. The moat and the northern water systems on the floodplain are also preserved. There is therefore a public interest in the preservation of the facility for historical and urban planning reasons, in particular because of its value in terms of local and regional history and the landscape.

Exhibition "From the Cube to the Cube" from the year 2000. By the artist HD Schrader. There are 9 cubes and squares in the castle park. The project was actually planned as a temporary one. After material fatigue, a new Red Cube was set up through donations.

It's nice to walk a bit before you get here, though. The castle itself simply does not exist. Sure, you may have found something there, but to put it bluntly, you could just say so. Nothing can really be seen except for a sign.
