The Louisa d’Havé Bridge is a sleek, modern bicycle and pedestrian bridge that connects the banks of the Scheldt River. Its open steelwork and soft curves give the bridge an almost floating appearance above the water. From the center, you have a clear view of the quays, residential areas, and the gentle flow of the Scheldt.

Ghent's Loreleie is a bright red, seated figure on the waterfront of Portus Ganda, right where the Scheldt and Leie rivers meet. Johan Meirlaen's artwork has a soft, inviting pose: anyone sitting next to her can look out over the long water towards the harbor basin.

From the Zuivelbrug bridge over the Leie River, you'll see the Dulle Griet (Mad Meg) on your left. This impressive wrought-iron cannon was long used as a garbage can or a sleeping place for lost drunks, so the barrel has now been sealed. It has stood in the same spot for 425 years and has never fired. Once you cross the bridge, you'll leave De Kuip and enter 's Gravensgrond (the Count's Ground): this area was originally owned by the Count, not by the city.

Calling the Leie River one of Ghent's top attractions is no exaggeration. The river, which rises in northern France, occupies a prominent place in this water city. Stroll along or sail on the water, try out a terrace with a view, cycle the Leiestreekroute past East Flemish villages, watch the Leie and Scheldt rivers meet at Portus Ganda. It's all as idyllic as it sounds.

The Leie can truly be described as one of Ghent's most important attractions. Originating in northern France, the river occupies a prominent place in this city of water. Whether strolling along its banks or taking a boat trip, enjoying a drink on a terrace overlooking the water, discovering picturesque East Flemish villages via a cycling route, or admiring the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers at Portus Ganda: it's all as idyllic as it sounds.

The name "Portus Ganda" sounds as if "the port of Ghent" was historically located here, but that is not the case. The term "Portus Ganda" only came into use around the turn of the century, as the name for a larger project sponsored by the European Union, the Province of East Flanders, Tourism Flanders and the City of Ghent, among others, in which the construction of this new transit port, but also the reopening of the "Reep" were provided for. "Ganda" is the old name for the nearby Sint-Baafsabdij (not to be confused with the Sint-Baafs Cathedral!!). Portus Ganda was officially opened at the end of April 2005. It would then take another 13 years before the Leie and the (Neder) Scheldt merged here again. After all, before that, it was still waiting for the construction of the Scaldissluis (at the Oude Beestenmarkt) and - above all - the reopening of the Reep.

It almost doesn't matter where you are in Ghent, it is simply stunningly beautiful. This special place offers a great view of the Leie, one of Ghent's two rivers, next to the Scheldt. Stay, enjoy and take some nice photos 📸
