Daknambrug in Daknam, een deelgemeente van Lokeren. Deze charmante draaibrug over de Durme ligt op de plaats van een vroegere veerpont op de oude heirweg Rijsel-Tilburg. Zo’n veerpont fungeerde als een brug waarmee mensen, vee, paarden en voertuigen werden overgezet. De bestaande draaibrug vervangt sinds de jaren 1930 een houten bruggetje. In die tijd werd de Durme hier tussen de samenvloeiing van Zuidlede en Moervaart aan Spletterenbrug tot aan de bocht ter hoogte van de Middendam rechtgetrokken. In de zomer kan je de bruggenwachter hier de brug zien opendraaien om de plezierboten door te laten die van of naar Lokeren varen.

The Kalkenvaart is a waterway between the village of Kalken and the Scheldt River. It runs through the Kalkense Meersen nature reserve and is very popular with anglers, hikers, and cyclists. A wide cycle and walking path runs alongside the canal. Since its dredging in 2022, the Kalkense Vaart has been very clean. You can cross the canal via the Roerdompbrug (Broedomp Bridge) and/or watch for fish swimming by.

At the intersection of the 4 municipalities that form the Kalkense Meersen nature reserve, an observation platform, 5m high and 3.5m wide, placed by Natuurpunt in 2023, offers a beautiful view of the old Scheldt arm and more generally of the nature of the Kalkense Meersen.

Berlinde is a toponym and refers to 'berre' or barre linde. So there used to be a dry linden or one without leaves at this location. In 1623, Jan De Croock was paid for making a tree chapel. The stone chapel came after a petition from 1670 by Jan Eeghers, mayor of Laarne. An extension on the south side in 1774 gave the chapel its current form with an entrance portal and rood screen. Many parts of the interior are still authentic, such as the joinery and carpentry of the entrance door, the baluster railing of the rood screen and the plastered vault. The current bell tower replaces an older one. On the other side of the chapel is a cozy café with a terrace (De Berre Linde, formerly café De Kapelle).

The platform, built by Natuurpunt and supported by local organisations such as the Wetteren cycling club 2ManyBikers and vzw Hofmakers, is five metres high and 3.5 metres wide, and made from sustainable European hardwood. The area not only has ecological value, but also serves as a natural buffer against flooding, a crucial aspect emphasised by the recent flooding in the Denderstreek. The viewing platform offers visitors the opportunity to view from above how nature restoration works, mainly carried out as part of the Sigma Plan, have transformed and improved the area to better protect Flanders against flooding from the Scheldt and its tributaries.
