The Parkbos is a vast nature reserve of over 1,200 hectares between Ghent, De Pinte, and Sint-Martens-Latem. Here you can walk through a mosaic of ancient forests, open grasslands, marshlands with boardwalks, and stately castles with long avenues. The atmosphere is both peaceful and surprising: grazing donkeys in Scheldevelde, a food forest in Zwijnaarde, and winding paths that reveal a constantly changing landscape. Whether you come to jog, cycle, or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll, the Parkbos offers something for everyone. The old railway bed forms a safe and green corridor through the area, ideal for a relaxing family outing. Also explore the Parkbos Valley of the Rosdambeek, where water, forest, and open space converge in a picturesque setting.

Beautiful, peaceful nature walk. A small part of the route was quite overgrown with nettles, but nothing insurmountable.

The Rosdambeek valley is located in the Leie valley, between the Ghent boroughs of Afsnee and Sint-Denijs-Westrem. In the northern part of the Rosdambeek valley you will still find beautiful alder marsh forests. Here you can find marsh marigolds, goldveil or cuckoo flowers in the spring. In the southern part there is a small-scale lake landscape, with low-lying meadows, rows of knotted trees, roughness and wooded edges. In some places there is peat in the subsoil. The area around the Rosdambeek valley is in full development. In time, a strong connection will be created here between the Parkbos and the Levende Leie Nature Park. The De Putten nature reserve (16 hectares, sub-municipality of Melsen) is part of the Scheldemeersen. The history of its origins has an industrial past, as the area was used for expanding land. This means that the clay layer was excavated for the production of bricks. This so-called 'Scheldt stone' was fired on site in small field ovens. Due to the high groundwater level, a swampy area quickly developed on these exhausted areas, where at most Canada poplars could survive. These were therefore planted en masse for the cuttings factories in Geraardsbergen, but that too has now become industrial archaeology. The first purchases were made in 1993 and the nature reserve has now grown into a mosaic of 16 hectares of moist meadows, lakes, swamps and swamp forests. A few plots of the old poplar forests remain for the Oriole and the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, two uncommon bird species that like to feed in those trees. 'De Putten' is part of the nature reserve 'De Scheldemeersen', where Natuurpunt already manages or owns 120 hectares. Bat trails through the rosdam valley

Chapel built in 1851 on a field road between Beukendreef and Scheldeveldedreef by the De Rudder-Deynoodt family of the nearby Hemelrijk castle, as a thank you for ending the cholera epidemic of 1849. White-brick chapel on a rectangular plan, under a gable roof (tiles) with a cross crown. Porch with square pillars with Tuscan capital and pediment with topoculus and inscription: "Need seeks comfort - Our Lady of Hemelryk Pray for us".
