This route connects three landscapes, each with its own unique history: the Hazenputten, the Dommelbeemden, and the Vressel forest area. The Hazenputten are remnants of old heathland and reclaimed lands, named after drinking and extinguishing wells that have been part of the landscape for centuries. From this higher, sandy area, the route descends to the Dommelbeemden: a classic stream valley landscape along the Dommel, where "beemden" used to flood annually and were used as hay meadows. This centuries-old land use created open grasslands of high natural value. The Vressel forms the counterbalance: a forest area on former heathland, planted from the 19th century onwards to control drifting sand and extract timber. The alternation between open stream valley, old cultivated land, and sheltered forest makes this hike a peaceful yet varied walk through a typical Brabant landscape, shaped by water, soil, and human use.

De Vresselse Hut Nature Gateway is located near the Vresselse Forest. This cycling café is an ideal stop and lunch spot for hikers, cyclists, mountain bikers, and other passers-by. Located next to the Vresselse Forest, De Vresselse Hut Nature Gateway offers wonderful walks along the marked trails of the Dutch Forestry Commission. There's also a dog walking route. After the line closed, the stop lost its function, but the station building was preserved as a recognizable heritage site with the typical NBDS architectural style: a compact stone structure with gables and simple details. The Dommel is one of the oldest streams in North Brabant and rises near Peer, Belgium. From there, the stream flows north through Valkenswaard, Eindhoven, Sint-Oedenrode, and Boxtel, among other places, before finally joining the Aa near 's-Hertogenbosch and continuing as the Dieze. The section around Olland and Liempde is known for its meandering course, wide floodplains, and wet grasslands. The water level fluctuates considerably here due to natural rainfall and seasonal influences, creating characteristic riparian vegetation such as sedge fields and wet meadows. The Dommel is ecologically valuable: species such as the kingfisher, beaver, water rail, and various dragonflies benefit from the calm banks and the clear, slow-flowing water. Along the stream lie centuries-old fields, old meadows, and remnants of historic embankments that once served to protect farmland from flooding.

The Groot Duijfhuis (Great Pigeon House) is located west of Liempde and is one of the best-preserved historic dovecotes in Brabant. The structure dates from the 17th century and was originally part of a large farm complex belonging to the Norbertines of Postel. The tower was used to keep pigeons for meat and manure, a valuable resource for the agricultural land in the Dommeldal valley. The square, brick tower stands on a slight elevation in the open landscape and is recognizable by its high hipped roof and the rows of entrances under the eaves. Inside are hundreds of stone nesting niches—typical of dovecotes from this period. The Groot Duijfhuis is a national monument and forms a striking landmark in the agricultural landscape between Liempde and the Mortelen region.
