Montiggl, a district of Appiano, is a tiny village near the two lakes of the same name. It was first mentioned in 1191 in the Caldaro Letter of St. Vigilius as Monticulum (little mountain). At its center stands the small late Gothic church dedicated to the Three Kings. It dates back to 1470. The church tower also has its own history. The only bell was cast around 1505 and still rings today. The low pyramid roof was added in 1518. In addition to Gothic elements, the church also features Baroque and Renaissance elements: The Baroque altar from 1695, for example, was designed by Jörg Stieger of Ehrenburg, and the sacristy dates from the late Baroque period. The Tyrolean coat of arms is located on the keystone of the choir. Before the parish of St. Michael was founded in 1921, the Church of the Three Kings in Montiggl was cared for by Franciscans. When taking a walk to the Montiggler Lakes or the Frühlingstal valley, a visit to the hamlet with its old houses in the Überetsch style is recommended.

A wonderful little town. Not far from places like Tramin and Lake Kaltern and the Montiggler Lakes. Highly recommended.

Montiggl (Italian: Monticolo) is a village in the Überetsch and a fraction of the municipality of Eppan. Montiggl is located in the center of an agricultural area covered with orchards and vineyards in the Montiggler forest on the Mitterberg. Montiggl is the center of a very popular and important hiking and recreation area. Here is the end or start of the spring valley, which lets its flowers shine even before spring. It connects the large Montigglersee with the Kalterer See.

At the Montiggler Lakes you can take a break and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountain peaks.
