The Kirschbaumhütte is a small shelter located in the heart of the Palatinate Forest, right at a crossroads. A seating area inside invites you to take a short rest during your hike.

"The weather cross, consecrated in 1909 by Bishop Konrad von Busch (1847-1910) of Speyer, was created by stonemason Johann Minges and is the highest weather cross on the Haardt mountain range. Locally, it is also known as the Bishop's Cross." The "sacrificial bowl" is "a rock with a naturally occurring depression in the middle – something quite common in the Palatinate Forest. However, the 'bowl' on the Orensberg shows signs of human intervention in the form of a so-called 'blood groove.' There are a few benches here for a rest. In spring/summer, this hillside area is often covered with tall grass and therefore somewhat confusing. In addition to tombs from the old cemetery of St. Johann and a memorial for those killed in World War I, the main remains here are the foundation walls of "the monastery church of the penitents, built in the 13th century. They had their cloister area on the site of today's BASF study house [= Rococo palace of St. Johann]." - "After the monastery was dissolved in the 16th century, the church served as the parish church for the town of St. Johann.
