The Geesthacht pumped storage power plant is a major hydroelectric power plant in northern Germany. Commissioned on October 15, 1958, it was the first and, for a long time, largest pumped storage power plant in northern Germany. It serves to quickly cover electricity demand during peak load periods and as an emergency reserve in the event of power outages. It also contributes to grid stability, particularly with regard to the fluctuating feed-in of renewable energy.

This old cemetery in Gülzow has been around since 1912. It is located a little outside of the city and is therefore very quiet. Here you can be alone with your thoughts and find peace. In front of the entrance by the cemetery wall there is a bench where you can take a rest.

St. Salvatoris Church is located in the oldest part of Geesthacht. Since the two previous churches were destroyed by floods on the Elbe, this church was built on the highest possible site on the Elbe riverbank. Construction began in the spring of 1685, about a year after the destruction of the previous church. At that time, Geesthacht was a relatively poor village with approximately 300 inhabitants. The new building was only possible with financial support from Hamburg, Lübeck, Bergedorf, and the Vierlanden and Marschlanden districts. Stones, the altar, pulpit, bells, clock, and other items from the previous church were reused, and the residents of Geesthacht helped with the new construction. The decision to build a half-timbered structure was also made for financial reasons: it was the most cost-effective solution. On November 13, 1685, the church was consecrated and named "Salvatoris Church," or Redeemer Church. The wooden bell tower, however, was not completed until 1691. The church essentially acquired its current form in the mid-19th century. Galleries were added to provide sufficient space for the growing population. The existing pulpit, an epitaph, and the door of the former confessional (all from the previous church) became the pulpit altar, as it still stands in the church today. The figures in it represent the priest Aaron and the martyred Christ. In 2000, the altar was restored with the aim of restoring its original colors. In the center of the nave hangs the chandelier donated in 1786, at the top of which hangs a small boat, indicating the profession of the donors. Among the oldest objects are a small statue of a saint and the chest, securely secured with two locks, in which the parish's assets were once kept. In the altar area, three gravestones are embedded in the walls. They were originally located in the floor and commemorate pastors buried in the church. The baptismal font was designed in the 1970s around an old wooden post found in the Elbe River. A matching lectern was added in 2002. The first organ was installed in 1843 and replaced by new ones in 1911 and 1969, respectively. Three bells hang in the tower. The largest and oldest dates back to the 14th century and is the oldest part of the church. The two smaller bells were created in 1959. The parish hall and rectory adjacent to the church were completed in 1917. https://www.kirche-geesthacht.de/unsere-kirche/st-salvatoris-kirche

On November 18, 2022, the research platform in Geesthacht/Tesperhude on the Elbe was officially inaugurated at the jetty. The Helmholtz Center Hereon operates the research platform. It continuously provides data on water quality in the Elbe, which is made available to the public. In addition, the research platform can be used by interested parties from science and industry on request. The development of the research platform was funded by the European Fund for Regional Development, the State of Schleswig-Holstein, the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers and the Helmholtz Center Hereon. https://www.danubius-ri.de/projects/research_platform_tesperhude/index.php.de
