The first documented mention of Alt Sammit dates back to 1274. After an eventful history, the castle became private property in 1996 and was renovated. In 1871, the well-known architect Martin Haller (who built the Hamburg town hall, among other things) built the manor house in the classical style for Johannes Hillmann. It was the center of a fairly large estate (513 hectares). After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was a hotel for a few years; it is now privately owned.
