Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can simply jump into the water here. But the view is worth it at any time of year and day.

I walked the path at night. Even without moonlight it was easy to see and nice to walk. The path is free of roots and you have many beautiful views of the city. Best on a bright moonlit night, of course.

Straussee is located directly next to the town of Strausberg, which in turn is only 35 kilometers from Berlin and is well connected to the city by S-Bahn and regional trains. This makes the lake one of Berlin's bathtubs. This elongated body of water is fed by groundwater and connected to three other lakes via the Annafließ stream. The line runs from southwest to northeast; our hiking friends recognize the glacial channel. If you want to get an initial impression on Wikipedia, you'll come across a major problem that is of great concern to the people of Strausberg: the lake is losing water dramatically. The main causes are probably low rainfall, increased evaporation, and increased groundwater extraction. We were last here at the end of March 2019. Even then, the significantly lower water level was noticeable. Now, in the summer of 2021, the situation has been addressed in that the former sandy bottom of the lake is now being cleared for swimming areas.

If you cross the Straussee to the forest side on the electrically operated passenger cable ferry, which is unique in Europe, and follow the shore path in a southerly direction, you will come across a quiet and natural bathing area. If you walk around the Straussee on the disabled-friendly shore path, you will pass numerous small bathing alcoves, which ensure direct access to the lake.

Just follow the hiking trail =) Everything is well signposted, and there's an ice cream waiting at the end.

Really relaxing walk around the Strausssee.

The Bötzsee is part of a chain of lakes and wetlands, the so-called Gamengrund. This glacial channel stretches west of Strausberg for many kilometers in a north-south direction. It is easy to walk around the lake and there are many beautiful views.

Once around it's around 10km. You can also take a shortcut by ferry. But check the timetable: in winter only on weekends.
