The Palatinate Forest is home to many such beautiful rock formations (which are around 250-270 million years old and made of red sandstone. Some of them offer fantastic panoramas. It is most beautiful here at sunrise.

Having seen such rock towers several times now, I'm curious how they could have formed! In my area, I know that such rocks broke off from the edge of the plateau and slid down. But here it looks different.
