In ancient times, Arles was known as the "Gallic Rome". Its great act was - when it was under the reign of Emperor Augustus towards the end of the 1st century BC. It is a very special building: one of the first theaters in the Roman Empire to be made entirely of stone.
The theater still serves as a spectacular backdrop for various outdoor performances, mostly between the end of June and the end of August. Almost 20 rows of the wide spectator stands have been preserved, as well as two pillars of the old stage.

Ancient structure that cannot be missed when visiting the city. All the sights can be explored in one day, as the city is quite small and manageable or everything is close together

The visit is a must in Arles. I always find it impressive to imagine that these buildings were built by the Romans about 2000 years ago and are still in this condition today.
