From its real name, Langlois bridge to Lavandières, it inspired the painter Vincent Van Gogh to create a series of several paintings. During the Second World War, all the bridges of the canal were destroyed except for that of Fos-sur-Mer. In 1959, it was dismantled for work and it was the city of Arles that decided to acquire it. In 1962 she installed it a few kilometers downstream from the moose bridge. It was thus renamed Van Gogh Bridge.

A modern bridge now stands 30 m away from the original location, but it no longer offers the previous view of the church towers, as houses and trees now block the view. (With a video drone you would still be able to see the old panorama.)
