Priory of St. Wigberti (Priorat St. Wigberti)

The place is known beyond the region by the "Priory of Saint Wigberti". This is a licensed Lutheran convent of Benedictine orientation. Here pray and work ev. Lutheran and Roman Catholic. Monks according to the Rule of St. Benedict.
Although not located on this river, the Unstrut Cycle Route - between Haßleben and Wundersleben - passes through Werningshausen.

Incidentally, the first documentary mention of the place dates from 750 to 802: At that time, a Hadamar transferred an estate in "Weremgereshusen" to the Fulda monastery. In 1255 the counts of equals became feudal lords of the village.
