The Roskilde Cathedral is one of the most important church buildings in Denmark and is also the burial place of the royal family. Many sarcophagi of deceased kings and queens can be seen here and as a result many side chapels that were built after the death of a monarch, as well as works of art of all kinds are exhibited here. The place is steeped in history and those interested should buy a corresponding information booklet at the entrance. The cathedral church is also an active parish church. Therefore, there is no or only limited access for tourists during church activities.

St. Lawrence's Church, Stændertorvet, was built around 1125 from limestone found underground. It was demolished in the 16th century, leaving only the tower, which today serves as the town hall tower, standing.

The church ruins lie approximately 2 meters below street level. Today, you can see the ornate clinker floor made of red and black bricks, as well as some of the church's medieval furnishings. Archaeological finds are on display in the underground ruins. It is now also possible to visit the church tower.
