We were last there on September 24th and unfortunately the trail from Garibaldi to the Umbrail Pass is no longer fun. In every bend, wide and deep ditches with sharp edges (risk of flat tires) have been dug out that are almost impossible to cross.
There was definitely an attempt to get the MTBs off the track here. It's a shame because for us it's actually the start of the Piz Umbrail tour to Sta Maria.

Beautiful single trail from the Garibaldi hut to the Umbrail pass. The level of difficulty of the historical military trail is S1 throughout. You can drive the numerous wide switchbacks without any problems. As an alternative ascent from the Umbrail pass to the Stilfserjoch or to the Garibaldi hut, the path is only partially recommended. If you already have plenty of vertical meters in your legs on your tour, the pass road is certainly the easier option. If you still have power reserves, the ascent is completely manageable even uphill.

Scheller, flowing single trail. Driving fun is the focus here. We rode this trail on our Alpine crossing. I have pictures and videos about this on my website: adventtour.net/post/mountainbike-transalp-pt2-stelvio-umbrai-garvia-val-di-sol-lago-di-garda
