Hohenhewen .. also called Hohenhöwen was a notorious robber knight's nest in the 14th century. The Counts of Lupfen-Stühlingen raided Ulmer merchants.
The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1050 and is a high medieval castle ruin.
A capture of the castle failed very very long u.a. the second siege during the Swiss War in 1499 was unsuccessful.
During the German Peasant War 1524/25, the castle was also not defeated.
In 1639 Bavarian Bavarian mercenaries besieged the castle during the Thirty Years' War and destroyed it. In the same year she became by marriage in the possession of the Lords of Fürstenberg. A reconstruction was not considered for them and so the ruin was abandoned to decay.
