Until the 18th century, the Hâble d'Ault was a bay that served as a refuge during heavy storms. As the bay was increasingly closed off from the sea by stones falling from the cliffs of Ault and the Pays de Caux, forming a kind of dike, the area has turned into a lagoon with marshes. About 200 species of birds live here, including ducks, geese and waders. Part of the lagoon is protected and owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, the other 62 hectares serve as a hunting reserve. In June and July, when sea kale, clover and wild thyme bloom, the Hâble is shrouded in bright purple and yellow colours.

The coastal wetlands in the Preserve behind the coastal dikes form a maze of lakes and continuously changing streams offer rich year-round pastures for horses and other fauna.

The scenery is very beautiful, with lots of birds, cows, horses, and sheep. The road is made of pebbles and quite strenuous to ride.
