Construction of the transmitter mast began on April 4, 1960; the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on December 22, 1960. It was built by Hein, Lehmann and Co. (Düsseldorf), then part of the Stumm Group. [1] On June 1, 1961, the second program ARD 2 (from April 1, 1963: ZDF) began to be broadcast, followed by the regional West German broadcasting program on October 25, 1963. With the introduction of private television, RTL Television was broadcast from April 1989 and VOX from January 1993 until all analogue TV channels were switched off from this location in 2005. [2] On April 7, 2006, the 16-meter-high GRP cylinder with the analog TV antennas, which was placed on the mast in 1981, was dismantled with the help of a Russian transport helicopter. This reduced the height of the mast from 220 to 202.5 meters. (Source Wikipedia)

Unfortunately, there are no official tours / tower ascents. As a teenager I was up there as part of my apprenticeship: great view 👍! The VVV joke hero could offer that from time to time...

Huge tower, especially when you stand directly in front of it 🙄 The above article describes the former Witzhelden television station (transmission mast), which no longer exists and has been dismantled. The tower shown in the uploaded photos is the Witzhelden telecommunications tower and not the transmission mast. The telecommunications tower is 134 m high and stands at 245 mm above sea level.
