Klostersøen contains the atmospheric ruins of the monastery that Queen Margrethe I permitted the Order of Bridgettine to build on Lolland, on the Mariboøerne. Bridgettine Monastery was completed in 1416.
The monastery was built from stone from Grimstrup Castle, the ruins of which can still be seen today near Nørresø, north of Maribo.
