Engestofte is an old royal estate, first mentioned in 1459. Today's main building is a listed single-wing building, it was built between 1805 and 1807 in the classical style. The adjoining church has the character of a medieval court chapel and shows that Engestofte was once a special property. In 1857 the cattle sheds burned down, they were later rebuilt together with a high water tower a little away from the main building. One of the most famous residents of the estate was Monica Wichfeld, who was active in the resistance movement against the Germans during World War II. But she was caught and arrested. She died of tuberculosis in captivity on February 27, 1945, just a few weeks before the liberation of Denmark. engestofte.com and danskeherregaarde.dk/nutid/engestofte
