The church is mainly built in the Romanesque style and dates from the 12th century. It is therefore one of the oldest churches in Denmark, since the oldest Danish church today has a vaulted room that can be dated to 1060.
The church was built over a period of 800 years. The choir room and nave date from the 12th century. The tower dates from the 14th century. The sacristy dates from 1781, the veranda from 1880 and the chapel partly from 1888 and 1952.
The church was last restored in 2012 and inaugurated and reopened on August 5 with the solemn sermon by Bishop Niels Henrik Arendt:
after a thorough interior restoration in collaboration with the color setter and curator Bent Jacobsen about color on ceilings, benches, pulpit and organ.
