Coming on the path with a "red dot on a white mirror", ie on the Bach hiking trail from Arnstadt to Ilmenau, the Bachweg is an alternative to the Ilmtalradweg.
On the first piece after the location, it goes on gravel paths to the edge of the forest. From here on I recommend long trousers or at least leg warmers. The scrub and nettles are knee-high here. After a while, the undergrowth disappears and you are on a wonderful forest path with a lot of roots, driving upstream next to the Ilm. Slightly exhilarating, but also more pleasant.
