Today, the fort, with its partially underground preserved building remains, the reconstructed north gate, the large thermal baths and the Roman museum with integrated Limes information center, is one of the most important addresses for Limes research in Germany.

With one minor interruption, the fort was probably occupied continuously by the Ala I Hispanorum Auriana (1st Spanish Cavalry Unit Auriana).
