With its mighty medieval residential tower, Beverungen Castle shapes the Weser front of the city of Beverungen.
For centuries it also served to secure the border of the Bishopric of Paderborn on this side of the Weser against the Electorate of Hanover (Lauenförde) opposite.

Around 1330, Bishop Bernhard V of Paderborn founded a castle at the important Weser crossing with the participation of Corvey Abbey and the Lords of Brakel.
Beverungen Castle is a partially preserved moated castle of the Paderborn diocese on the Weser in Beverungen in the Höxter district.
A mighty rectangular residential tower and the so-called Rentmeisterhaus have been preserved. Since the new Weser Bridge was built in 1902, the castle grounds have been divided by a street.
The castle is now privately owned and houses a restaurant with a knight's hall and a wedding room.
