Today, the stream valleys of Radenbach and Schmale with their wetland grassland are valuable habitats in the nature reserve Lüneburg Heath, mainly because of their variety of plants and animals. The association Nature Park Lüneburg Heath ensures that the areas in the river valleys do not grow. Cattle of the breed "Wilseder Rote" and Dülmener horses from the landscape care center Tütsberg live here year-round in wind and weather. The different feeding preferences and the feeding behavior of the animals together provide species-rich and structurally rich grassland areas, near-natural forest edges and a varied landscape. Especially in the southern part of the Radenbachtal, near Döhle, the animals are often well observed from the path. Information about the breeds of horses and cattle, the diversity of species on the land and the different types of cultivation can be found at the intersections. The Wilseder of the red cattle and the Dülmener horses, which can be seen from the way on the paddocks, belong to the so-called Robust races. Their primeval appearance and behavior resemble their ancestors, the extinct Aurochs and the Tarpanen. The Wilseder Roten are today a cross between Scottish Highland and Shorthorn cattle. They resemble as "image breeding" the down-to-earth small, red heather cattle that lived in the Lüneburg Heath until the 19th century. As with the Heidschnucken, animals are taken out and slaughtered to keep the herd from getting too big. The meat is a specialty and delicacy.
