At the northern entrance to Halmstad is the so-called Karl XI Hut. It was there that the king had to take shelter on his way to Halmstad Castle one night when, according to the rules in force, the gate was not opened after the closure. Norre Port, one of Sweden's few surviving city gates, underwent a renovation in 2005. In June 2007, Norre Port was declared a monument.
