In 1893 the famous German painter Eugen Bracht painted a picture of the grave of the Carthaginian general Hannibal while on a trip to Turkey. At an art exhibition in the 1920s, where this picture was also shown, visitors felt they knew the place.
The motif was compared and it was found that the resemblance to the stone formation from the Lüneburg Heath near Wilsede was amazing. Now the assumption was made that Eugen Bracht was never in Turkey, but had painted the picture in the Lüneburg Heath.
