In the late second and early third centuries AD, the area of today's Rheinbrohl was the site of a Roman fort. Here was the northern beginning of the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes.Rheinbrohl itself was first mentioned on May 3, 877 in a letter from King Charles the Bald and at that time belonged to the Nivelles Abbey in the Duchy of Brabant. The bailiffs were the Counts of Sayn. In 1606, Rheinbrohl fell to Electoral Trier as a fief, in the course of secularization in 1803 to Nassau, after the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to Prussia.Source: Wikipedia
