Experience the formation of the Rochlitz porphyry tuff and the history of the Rochlitz quarries on guided hikes over the Rochlitzer Berg and as school and extracurricular project offers. The starting point of the geotourism programs is the porphyry house on the Gleisbergbruch. The former social building for the stonemasons can be used multifunctionally as a "green classroom" and event room and shows historical photos of the Rochlitz quarries in a small photo exhibition.
From the 9th century, the continuous mining of the Rochlitz porphyry tuffs can be proven. The distinctive red stone is unique and characteristic of the region of the Geopark Porphyrland. Right next to the porphyry house you can take a look at historical technology at the smithy, the shelter and at the track quarry. The track bergbruch reaches down sixty meters. To capture these dimensions, there is a lower and an upper viewing platform. The super volcano around 290 million years ago left layers of rock more than 500 meters thick.
