You should definitely take the short walk, as it offers a magnificent view. A beautiful view, a jungle feel, and a few old fishing boats to boot. The area is almost mystical, and you can climb the castle ruins for free. Definitely worth a visit!

It takes about 10 minutes on foot from the town along a small path. The former Dunakin Castle, now called Caisteal Maol (Bare Castle) after it was abandoned and fell into ruins.

The ruin of a 15th century tower castle, but fortified earlier and owned by the MacKinnon clans since at least the 10th century, guarded the straits between Skye and the mainland. Today, from the end of the small S Obbe Rd in Kyle Akin, the footpath through ferns, mud and rocks past an old boat and a shipwreck - the path on the beach would probably only be passable at low tide - up to the hill with the remains of the wall. From there you have a beautiful panoramic view of the Skye Bridge and across the inlet to the Dun Eilean Castle.
