Breitenbach Dam: A destination with many possibilities!
Sports, recreation and hiking away from the Rothaarsteig

On the 57.7 ha large, built from 1953 to 1956 for drinking water supply reservoir from 1976 to 1980, the dam was again increased.

The dam between the districts of Allenbach and Dahlbruch has since then been the second largest in Siegen-Wittgenstein with a capacity of almost eight million cubic meters. Due to its character as a drinking water dam, it is forbidden to practice water sports. But it also offers enough recreational opportunities.

The 5.27 km long, paved circular route allows hikers, cyclists and inline skaters to be active in sports. In addition, there are five large display boards along the way, informing about the regional history, the drinking water supply and the dam.

Another opportunity to recover after a workout or a strenuous hike is the former guardhouse, which became a cozy café and restaurant in 2008. According to its origin, the restaurant bears the name Altes Warterhaus.

To make the dam even more appealing for hikers, a new hiking highlight, the Calorie Trail, has been opened here on April 10, 2011. This path leads to two places that run along the well-known circular route, through forest. On the approximately 7 kilometers there are 10 sports experience stations; hence the name "calorie path".

Due to these many opportunities to spend your free time at the Breitenbach dam, the citizens and guests of Hilchenbach and the surrounding area are recommended to visit there.

Those who like to stop off on a hiking tour can do so in the "Alten Wärterhaus" directly at the dam wall. Closed on Mondays.

During the week the round around the dam is less frequented. On the weekend and good weather, the small round is often very busy

    👍🏼
    Everyone comes around here.
In the summer and winter already to run.
There is free on-site parking and access is easy.
The paths are tarred and there are enough benches for a break
Believe everyone brings a bird house
    Have fun with the round.

The Breitenbachtalsperre is an excursion destination with refreshments very popular with recreational athletes and walkers. To the Breitenbach dam leads a 5.27 km long circular path, which invites for hiking, cycling and inline skating and a 7km long calorie trail. On information boards on the Sperrmauer many information on the subject of water, the history of the water supply and details on the two reservoirs Diebänder Breitenbach- and Obernautalsperre are vividly illustrated.

The trail is partly in the shadow of the forest. Therefore very pleasant temperatures even in summer.

At the dam, a visit to the old warden's house is worthwhile.
At the end of the tour, a visit to the ice cream parlor is highly recommended.
