From the outside one of the most impressive and beautiful churches in Vienna! The small park around it invites you to linger. Unfortunately we could not visit inside because it was closed at the time
The "Mexico Church", the official name is the Parish Church of St. Francis of Assisi, is a Roman Catholic church in Vienna's 2nd district of Leopoldstadt. It is located on Mexikoplatz near the Reichsbrücke and is a striking building in the neo-Gothic style. The foundation stone was laid on June 10, 1900 by Prince Archbishop Cardinal Anton Josef Gruscha in the presence of the emperor and more than 100,000 people. The church was built to mark the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign. It is therefore also known as the Imperial Jubilee Church.
The striking architecture of the Mexico Church, the red towers and the location on the Danube Canal make it one of the most impressive buildings in Vienna. The view from the bridge or from the opposite bank is particularly picturesque, especially at sunset, when the church shines in the warm light and is reflected in the water. A real eye-catcher.
A visit to the Mexico Church (Parish Church of St. Francis of Assisi) is worthwhile both from the outside and the inside. The interior of the Mexico Church is in neo-Romanesque style and impresses with its simple but sublime design. The combination of the impressive architecture and the location on Mexico Square makes the Mexico Church an unforgettable destination in Vienna.
