The Hammundeseiche is a natural monument, which is located about three kilometers northeast of Friedewald in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg in Seulingswald in Hesse and about 650 meters south of the Friedewald road to Hönebach, at the branch of the bottleneck.
The oak stands in the center of the former hamlet of Hammundeseiche at 435 meters above sea level. The oak is the former center of Hammundeseiche, which has been abandoned since 1312. Directly next to the oak are the reconstructed village well and a small pond.
Only in 1969 were remnants of the forgotten place found, uncovered and constructed.

The Hammundeseiche, known until 1905 as "Eichen am Nadelöhr", is said to be over 1000 years old and one of the oldest trees in Germany. However, according to the current status, it is rather only about 350-440 years.
Incidentally, Germany's oldest tree is the village linden tree of Schenklengsfeld.

Hammundeseiche is a village located on the so-called KURZEN HESSEN, which probably fell into ruin at the beginning of the 14th century. The foundations of the church and the village fountain are still visible today. The Hammundeseiche - a natural monument - is probably located in the area of the former village center.
You can get here on well-developed forest paths both on foot and by bike - not necessarily a racing bike - and you can take a good rest here - there are some places to sit by the former church.
