Schwellbrunn lies on a hill, a narrow ridge, above Degersheim and Herisau and is a popular excursion location. Schwellbrunn is 972 m above sea level. M. is the highest municipality in the canton and offers a view of the northern shore of Lake Constance. The Wissbach rises to the west, the Glatt to the east of the ridge.
