Druridge Bay is a lush seven mile (11 km) stretch of sand running from Amble to Cresswell. It's often only got a few people on it, and you can run or ride for miles or take a cheeky dip! It's owned by the National Trust and the dunes are home to plenty of wildlife. It's a really, peaceful, calm place.
A bit of history... In the 19th century coal was mined nearby, and during World War II Druridge Bay was considered as a possible landing place for a German invasion. You can still see the anti-tank blocks and pill boxes along it.
Towards the northern end you'll find Druridge Bay Country Park, with a visitor centre and café, but also lakes and a series of smaller nature reserves, which are home to everything from swans to rare birds like the Golden Eye Snipe. Ooo err!
Well worth a run or walk along this beach at any time of the year. It's kind of wild and awesome in winter!
