Great little spot for a photo right next to the carpark. and it was the start and end of our little walk

Each coal shaft would have had two of these wheels at its head, one for the down cable and one for the up. The workers and materials travelled up and down the same shafts, sometimes at the same time.

This wheel was used at the Ashington Colliery, it's now a statue and a memorial of the industry.
