Teutonic Order Castle Mergentheim

In the 12th century, the lords of Hohenlohe built a moated castle here. In 1219 they donated them to the Teutonic Order. From 1525 to 1809, the Mergentheim residence was the permanent headquarters of the Hoch- and Deutschmeister and now houses the Deutschordensmuseum.

A beautiful castle with a moat. Inside is the castle garden, which is often used in summer for large events and concerts. It's always worth a look!

There is a small café right next to the castle. If you drive towards the city center you will find various ice cream parlors and other options for a short meal or drink.One should try to be considerate of the many, mostly older, pedestrians and always ring the bell early to avoid conflicts. Unfortunately, you get it too often.
