The Rennsteig is a 170 km long Kammweg as well as a historic border path in the Thuringian Forest, Thuringian Slate Mountains and the Franconian Forest. He is also the oldest and with about 100,000 hikers annually the most-traveled long-distance trail in Germany. It begins in Eisenacher district Hörschel on the banks of the Werra and ends in Blankenstein (municipality Rosenthal am Rennsteig) on the Selbitz bridge. His waymark is a white R.

The International Mountain Trail of Friendship Eisenach-Budapest (abbreviated EB way) is a long distance hiking trail that leads through Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. He is 2690 kilometers long.
Starting point of the mountain hiking trail is the Wartburg in Eisenach. The section from the Hohe Sonne to Neuhaus am Rennweg runs on the Rennsteig.
